Prayers from Psalm 20

Recently I was reading through Psalms and praying and worshiping, and I paused at Psalm 20… praying for you verse by verse.
Here I will share highlights from that time of prayer.
Homeschooling with Psalm 20 Read and pray verse by verse or phrase by phrase:
20:1 “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!”
Oh, Father, you know our weaknesses, our anger, and any other evil lurking, please protect us. We ask this in Your Name.
20:2 “May He send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion!”
Your help, O LORD, we cherish. Help us train in a way that pleases You. Help us choose books to read and study that show who You are.
20:3 “May He remember all your offerings and regard with favor our burnt sacrifices.”
Oh, God, we admit freely that all we have to give You is tainted. We want to offer our hearts, our gifts, our lives to you but we are dependent on You for that. Thank you for hearing our plea.
20:4 “May He grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!”
Dearest Lord, Oh that my heart would desire the absolute best for my family. You, O Lord, know that best. I surrender to You to give me the very thing that prospers us most. That, O Lord, is what I want to desire. Thank you for helping me. We will watch, O Lord, as You fulfill our plans. Direct us.
20:5 “May we shout for joy over your salvation and in the name of our God set up our banners!”
In what form will this shouting take, O Lord? Help us to remember that YOU and YOU ALONE save and to rejoice in that work in us. We plead for the souls of the ones we love, who have not seen
Your salvation. Train us, O God, in what banners to fly and teach us to pledge allegiance to Your choice of banners.
20:6 “Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; he will answer Him from His holy heaven with the saving might of His right hand.”
It comforts us, Lord, to know that You can and will save. And that answers are always on the way for us. Oh Lord, I praise You that Your heaven is holy. None but you, O God, has the power to promise such a place. To envision a sin- free environment is beyond me but the glimpse I have makes me marvel and praise.
20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Father, help us to grow deeper and deeper in our understanding of your name that we might grow in trusting who that reveals You to be. We love you Lord and want our trust in You above all else.
20:8 “They collapse and fall but we rise and stand upright.”
Oh God, empower us to march strong. Even in despair Father, may we look to you and be renewed in strength.
20:9 “O Lord, save the king! May he answer us when we call.”
Dear Jesus, we ask you to help us know how to honor those in authority over us. May we lead quiet and peaceable lives because they lead well.
As we think of praying for one another, could we agree to pray for:
- another great awakening
- revival among those who believe
- hunger for God’s Word
- growing delight in knowing God better.
How comforting to know that we are part of a surrendering body.
Love, Becky
